Mirat Yavalar (Treasurer) is a founder and Treasurer of Atatürk Society of America. She graduated from Istanbul University School of Education in 1977. She served as elementary school teacher for 5 years in Turkey. Mrs. Yavalar worked as a board member for Children FosterCare from 1983 to 1985 and vice president of Washington Turkish Women Association from 1994 to 2002.

Mirat Yavalar led several campaigns to promote Ataturk’s vision and message. She distributed books about Ataturk to leading universities in the US and to libraries in the DC metro area. She also led a project to send musical instruments, books and library metarials to a middle school in Kizilkoy,Tokat which led to the establisment of an orchestra, the first if its kind in that village.
