Ilknur Boray (Vice President) has been an active volunteer in the Turkish-American community of Washington, DC, along with her late husband Yavuz Boray, since moving to the area as college students in 1977.
Gulgun Aray Karamete (Secretary) is a professional actress and acting instructor. Gulgun graduated from the Ankara State Conservatory Theater Department in 1992 and performed at the Turkish National Theater until 1998.
Mirat Yavalar (Treasurer) is a founder and Treasurer of Atatürk Society of America. She graduated from Istanbul University School of Education in 1977. She served as elementary school teacher for 5 years in Turkey.
Nurgul Kalyoncu Balimtas (Board Member) has a B.S. in Chemistry from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, a M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Kocaeli, and a M.S. in Education from Maryland.
Tijen Baydur (Board member) was born and raised in Izmir, Turkey. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Carnegie-Mellon University (Pittsburgh) and a Master of Science degree from Johns-Hopkins University (Baltimore) in Information and Telecommunications Systems.
Berkay Demirkan (Board Member) was born in Stuttgart – Germany. He earned Bachelor of Science degree from Kocaeli University Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and graduate degree from Strayer University on MBA – Marketing.
Filiz Odabas-Geldiay (Board Member) is the Executive Director of International Association for Human Values and one of the founders of Ataturk Society of America. In her previous position, she organized World Children’s Day events at the UN General Assembly based on the principles of April 23 Turkish National Children’s Day.
Dr. Can E. Korman (Board Member) is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the George Washington University. Between 2009 and 2020 he served as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the School of Engineering and Applied Science.
