Members and friends of the Ataturk Society of America in the Washington, DC metropolitan area gathered to pay respect to Kemal Ataturk after 78 years of his death.
Two guest speakers, Dr. Garrett Sheldon and Mr. Kaya Boztepe gave memorable lectures. Similarities between Thomas Jefferson and Kemal Ataturk were the main point of topic in Dr. Sheldon’s lecture and Mr. Boztepe highlighted Ataturk’s genius and aptitude in many fields with stories from Ataturk’s life. The guests enjoyed the ceremony and the reception that followed even more by the attendance of Volkan Konak, a well-known singer In Turkey and Haluk Baydur, a 90 year old gentleman who shared his own personal recounts of Ataturk from his childhood years in Ankara.
