October 29, 2018 marks the 95th Anniversary of the Turkish Republic!  On October 29, 1923, the Republic was proclaimed. The great liberator and the founder of the republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, was elected first President of the Republic of Turkey.

Atatürk’s Republic means:
~ self-governance of the people
~ independence
~ freedom of the mind, freedom of thought
~ science and reason
~ secularism
~ democracy and civilization
~ championing human rights
And it means embracing national unity and world peace.

In embodying so many qualities, Atatürk represents the free spirit and the pride of the Turkish nation. The proud Turk did not accept the humiliation of being ruled over by foreign invaders and thus, the national struggle for freedom meant independence or death!  Atatürk and all the other heroes who fought under grim conditions during the national struggle, fought for every little branch of that magnificent tree with strong roots, which became the Republic. The success at the end gradually paved the way to national sovereignty.
