Atatürk Society of America, in conjunction with Turkish Coalition of America, wholeheartedly thanks steadfast friends of Turkish Americans and Turkish people Congressman Steve Cohen (D-TN) and Congresswoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC), for introducing and cosponsoring H. Res. 931 – Congratulating the people of the Republic of Turkey and Turkish Americans nationwide on Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
April 23, 1920 is the date that the Turkish Parliament was formally established, and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the visionary leader of modern Turkey, led the Turkish nation to founding a democratic secular Republic of Turkey.

The introduction of the resolution provides recognition and 100th year
commemoration by the United States Congress, and will be forever part of the US record of US congressional recognition of the importance of the Turkish people’s “sovereignty without any conditions and restrictions”.
