Members and friends of the Ataturk Society of America in the Washington, DC area gathered to pay their respects to Kemal Ataturk 78 years after the great man’s death.
Two guest speakers, Professor Garrett Sheldon and Mr. Kaya Boztepe gave a pair of memorable lectures. The theme of Dr. Sheldon’s lecture was the similarities in the traits and modus operandi of Thomas Jefferson and Kemal Ataturk. Mr. Boztepe talk highlighted Ataturk’s genius in a variety of fields with anecdotes from Ataturk’s life. The experience of the guests was further enhanced by the presence of Volkan Konak, a well-known singer In Turkey, and Haluk Baydur, a 90-year old Turk who shared his own personal memories of Ataturk.
